Yes. ZERO recognises that applying stickers to safety helmets is common across construction, infrastructure, utilities and other industries.

Site access and induction stickers, company identification, competency stickers and stickers supporting industry or safety initiatives are commonly applied to helmets throughout their working life.

ZERO permits these types of stickers to be applied to the Pinnacle Zertec and Apex helmet ranges, provided reasonable care is taken when selecting, applying and removing them.

Choosing suitable stickers 

Adhesives can potentially interact with ABS and polypropylene helmet shells. Stickers should therefore use adhesives that are suitable for these materials.

Non-solvent-based adhesives, including water-based and compatible pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive systems, are generally suitable.

ZERO does not expect an end user to obtain or assess the detailed chemical composition of every site access, identification or safety sticker before applying it. Where a conventional workplace sticker is being used and there is no reason to believe it contains an aggressive solvent or chemical, it can generally be applied in accordance with this guidance.

If there is uncertainty about an unusual adhesive or specialist sticker, the sticker manufacturer or supplier should be asked to confirm its suitability for use on ABS or polypropylene safety helmets, as applicable.

 

Where can stickers be applied?

Stickers should only be applied to appropriate areas of the external helmet shell.

They should not cover ventilation openings, manufacturer identification, certification information, the date of manufacture or other important product markings.

They should not interfere with the fit, adjustment, retention system or attachment of approved accessories.

Stickers should never be used to cover existing damage, and the amount of the helmet covered should not prevent a thorough visual inspection for cracks, dents, impact damage, discolouration or other signs of deterioration.

 

 

Removing stickers 

Care should also be taken when removing stickers.

Do not use solvents, thinners, acetone, petrol or aggressive adhesive-removal products on the helmet shell. These chemicals may adversely affect the helmet material even where deterioration is not immediately visible.

Any remaining adhesive should be removed using cleaning methods permitted in the helmet's instructions for use.

 

 

Do stickers affect the ZERO warranty?

Applying suitable stickers in accordance with this guidance does not, by itself, invalidate ZERO’s manufacturing warranty.

However, damage or deterioration caused by an incompatible adhesive, solvent, chemical, sticker or sticker-removal process is not considered a manufacturing defect and is not covered by the manufacturing warranty.

 

 

Do stickers affect the service life of a helmet?

 

The maximum service life of ZERO helmets varies by model and is stated in the applicable product information and instructions for use.

For ZERO helmets with a maximum service life of up to 10 years from the date of manufacture, this represents the maximum allowable service life and should not be interpreted as a guaranteed working life.

Actual service life depends on how the helmet is used and cared for, including frequency and conditions of use, impacts, environmental and UV exposure, storage, maintenance and its condition during regular inspection.

A suitable sticker does not automatically shorten the service life of a helmet. However, third-party stickers and adhesives introduce an additional variable that ZERO cannot assess or control over an extended period. ZERO therefore cannot guarantee that a helmet to which third-party stickers have been applied will remain suitable for use for its full maximum service-life period.

Regardless of age, a helmet must be removed from service if its use history or condition indicates that it may no longer provide the required protection.
