Kiwi company adapts sports gear technology for safer PPE

New Zealand equipment producer ZERO Height Safety has partnered with twICEme Technology to allow seamless access to vital information through the tap of a smartphone when an emergency occurs.

The partnership aims to increase the level of safety for workers within the construction and industrial sectors globally through twICEme’s integrated technology for accessible vital information in personal protective equipment (PPE).

The digital solution can contribute to a more efficient emergency response in the event of an accident, where vital information of a person can be immediately accessed when completing a patient assessment.

ZERO Height Safety, which is part of the PBI Height Safety group, will bring a new generation of products to market this year, utilising twICEme’s integrated technology.

The concept provided by twICEme Technology operates via an integrated hardware that is placed directly within the PPE. Their solution can already be found in sports gear like bike helmets and ski helmets, and in professional safety equipment like safety helmets and fall protection harnesses.

The hardware is based on Near Field Communication (NFC) which provides seamless access to vital information through a tap of a smartphone (the same technology as paying with your smartphone).

All data is locally stored directly on the integrated twICEme hardware for data security, which can then be read on any smartphone. The hardware is a passive device with no tracking functionality, so a mobile network or internet connection is not required to access the information through the app. It reads through magnetic induction by energizing the device to transfer the data so it requires no batteries.

“Our goal is to create a global standard for access to vital information to contribute to safer workplaces for people,” says twICEme Technology’s Chief Executive, Christian Connolly.

“This partnership with Zero Height Safety further confirms the large interest in implementing digital safety measures within the construction and industrial sectors on a global scale.”

The Swedish based technology company has also initiated partnerships with innovative brands such as the Scandinavian frontrunner Guardio Safety, the American brand STUDSON and the European innovator Fall Safe to drive a change towards safer workplaces.

The collaborations, resulting in highly innovative products, have been praised by the industry and have gained international recognition.

New Zealand’s ZERO Height Safety now joins them as part of twICEme Technology’s global expansion within the professional safety segment.

“With increased pressure on the performance of teams who operate in challenging worksites in all types of weather, ZERO is laser-focused on creating smart, protective equipment that leverages technology and innovation to improve the safety of our skilled workers,” says ZERO Height Safety’s head of strategic growth, Gavin How.

“With safety and health at the forefront, twICEme responds perfectly with this vision, and we’re very excited to be releasing ZERO product integrations over the coming months.”
